mmfun - mtd picker

mmfun, I saw a post from November where you had pictures of a MM mounted corn picker you found on a sale or for sale. Did you end up buying it? I have not seen a picker like that. Does the husking unit mount to the 3pt? I am curious about it. Thanks! Kirk

Kirk, I think Ive got a service bulletin on how they mounted on a 445. I'll have to see if I can find it. If I rememeber right they had brackets that mounted to the rear axles.

Alan, Thanks. I am curious to see pictures. There were not any MM mounted pickers in SE Minnesota that I knew of. My dad still used his mounted NI 319 until the mid 1990s. We still have it and I added a IH 234 to the shed. So the mounted picker is something of interest to me. Thanks again!

The whole picker hangs from the three point. The three point also raises and lowers the whole picker. They called it the Rock and Roll picker. Hope to have it home this spring.

I wondered if it might be one of those. I wasnt sure what year they came out. I remember seeing literature on them mounted on an M5.

Here are some pictures from the sales brochure and some pictures from the Minnesota State Fair with a mounted cultivator that would be a nice find for my 445.

Very neat pictures. Thanks for posting. I like all the MMs, certain ones for certain reasons but the 445s sure look neat, especially the new ones in the pictures. I think there was someone in the MM Corresponder that had a 445 with a cultivator that he restored. I remember seeing literature on the lift boom for mounting the cultivator on the tractor.

mmfun,

Thanks for the great pictures!! I can't wait to see one in person or video of one. Like I said, I don't recall may MM picker in the area, nor much MM machinery. Corn Shellers was about it. mmfun, where are you located?

Kirk

There were three models of Moline mounted corn pickers.

The third model was a Oliver model 74 painted yellow. It was called a Moline model 210.

The second model was the ROCK and ROLL model that is shown in the other post.

The first model was built in the mid 1950's It looked some like the second model, but it had a heavy husking bed with the offset elevator. It was designed for the UTS, ZB and the UB tractors. That picker could be mounted on a 445, but the tractor would have been overloaded with one. It took about two days to get the tractor ready and mount it. It was heavy.

Where I came from the Moline guys mounted the New Idea pickers on their tractors. Years ago I ran a 5 STAR with a NEW IDEA #20 for a neighbor.

Ive heard that as well with the older pickers mounted on the ZB-UBs. Had a neighbor that had one. He said it was a little clumsy. Ive also heard that there were some axle breakages as well from the weight. Do you have any pictures of the MM 210s you mentioned?

I have the advertising on all three pickers, but I have no way of posting them.

This past summer, at the Half Century of Progress show, there was a guy that had all three colors of the pickers in the field. A green picker mounted on an Oliver. A red picker mounted on a Cockshutt tractor. and a yellow model 210 mounted on a Moline tractor.

To me they were quite impressive.

Problem with the "rock and roll" --- same husking bed and pick up cast snapping rolls as pull type --- was the framing structure as it was TOO light for the use ---much vibration and rough field "twisting and turning" but if that was strengthened, it works well --- best MM for it was the M-5 --- best POINT OF UNIT was EASY; FAST HOOKUP AND GO --several hours at worst! I have some of the original information bulletins / pamphlets on them as well.

Had a friend who had a 52-53 mm ZB with a NI #20 mounted picker. Wish i had a pic of it now. He had 3 wagons with false end gates he cranked back by hand. i remember the rear wheels were set out and reversed dish side out. Maybe some day when i am better with puters i will have to photo shop me a pic of it.was like christmas and my birthday and 4th of july when he came over to pick corn. RIP Leo Stinemeyer,I should have bought that tractors and picker at his sale but was young and stupid and was trying to impress the wrong person! lol
