3 point braces on late M602?

Has anyone ever seen these type of braces on the "M" series tractors? I havent seen anything in the parts books on them but they look to have factory dyna brown paint. Im guessing for extra support for fully mounted heavier 3pt implements.

I bought two tractors and a parts tractor all off the same farm that had those braces. The old man told me they put them on after the boys broke the second hydraulic housing racing across the fields hauling big round bales. I did not ask if he fabbed them or if they were a factory part. I remember the one was a fresh newer yellow on an M5.

Ive heard stories of the whole hyd reservoir being pulled off and out from underneath the operator, especially with the older 3pt mounted pipe plows of the late 1950s. The 3 bottom ones were ok but when the 4th bottom was added that was too much weight. Makes sense.

I remember seeing a dealer service letter on adding those. I will look thru mine to see if i can find the number. If i recall it was to keep the tel-o-flow on the tractor when using heavy pulling 3pt attachments.

That would make for an interesting ride since your rear end is sitting on that housing!!! Be hard to steer and push the clutch in when you are sitting on the plow!!!

Been there, done that. Was plowing up alfalfa sod with a 4-16 mounted plow, Don't remeber the model, it was the one with the heavy flat bar frame, I think it came with our M5 new. Anyway it broke the studs off and the teleflow tipped back. An exciting ride all right. The way I remember I didn't come all the way off. Had to drill out a couple of studs. The problem was caused by the nuts loosening up. Should have been more careful to keep them tight. That was on a M670 Super in about 1980.

I bet that was an eye opener. Ive always heard of that happening. Do you still have your M670? I have seen holes in the reservoir as well just behind where the top link connects on like an M5. Im guessing the later ones might have been beefed up in that spot.

Yes we still have it, 12000 hrs and still going. Taught me to check those nuts on the resivoir once in awhile. Had a Taarup belt mower conditioner one time, it was 3 point mounted. Was moving from one field to another close by and didn't put it in transport position with the cutter bar straight back instead of off to the side. Hit a small bump on the way and broke the resivoir right off a Jet Star. It cracked it just above the studs. Bought a complete unit of a salvage yard 5 Star to replace it.

I found it this weekend. It was a Hopkins Branch service bulletin. Not a MM service letter. I will see if can get it posted, but i ussually dont have much luck. They were MM parts.. The part numbers are listed on the bulletin.
