For pulling, I wouldn't be afraid of 3000 rpm. For field work, I wouldn't go much over stock.
 
Mine is totally stock I I run it 2300 rpm. He's right that timing becomes tricky since the indirect injection is a slow process. At higher rpm it sounds like it needs more timing but as the rpm comes down it falls into its power band and pulls like crazy LOL. The good news is that with the Roosa-Master pump you can quickly and easily adjust your injection timing to find your "sweet spot".
