445 Industrial Hyd Pump-DEAD uh oh

Hi I have a 1956 445 Industrial with a loader and hoe and an external hydraulic pump. There is not 3 point hitch or any way to control the pump, it spins when the engine spins, well it used to. Yesterday while backfilling a trench the hydraulics stopped working, no power steering and no moving the front bucket up. It simply stopped, no noises, no banging, no clanging, no growling and no whining. It just stopped. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? I know I will have to pull the top cover off and take a look, but I need some support from folks that know more than me. I live in Ohio and I am an hour from Wendell Everett so I hope he has any parts I may need.
Thanks

I have a "56 445 backhoe too, that works, BUT, I have a Big Mo 500 forklift that the hydraulics just up and quit on me, just like yours. I pulled the pump off the back and figured out the little coupling between the pump and the shaft had worked itself off one of the shafts. I used some washers to shim it up so the coupling stayed on both shafts. Easy to fix but it took 2 weeks of spare time to figure it out. That coupling has a snap ring in the center to keep the coupling centered on the 2 shafts but it is an inch too short. They have splines like a PTO shaft. I hope this helps.

HI thanks for the help! I should have mentioned that the day before I was a bit stuck, came flying backwards over a mound of gravel and SLAMMED down hard enough to break one of the safety chains holding the hoe up. I wonder if in that jolt something worked loose?

If I pull the pump I assume I will see the shaft turning, if it is turning. . . right? And if that shaft is turning then obviously it has become disconnected from the pump.

Yes, that bouncing around could have jarred something loose. I think that is what happened with the forklift. Worked just fine when I bought it, I had it hauled 100 miles to home, then it did not work. I figure the incline loading and road bumps caused the coupling to work its way to one end, like I said it is too short to start with. If you take the pump off the shaft should turn with the engine. The other end has splines on the flywheel. I suppose they could go bad, but that should make some grinding noise.

Well I found the problem, the coupling sleeve that goes from the PTO shaft to the pump is broken, I have attached pics. Any idea where to get one? Is this a standard part?
Thanks

I wonder if that is a standard sleeve for all hydraulic pumps on 445s? I might have one on my workbench, I'll have to look tomorrow.

Yeah I was thinking that too . . . I wonder if I can't find a whole new coupling setup that is keyed and will fit. It can't be that hard and it's just turning the pump.

I just bought this beauty... a 335W backhoe... and am trying to figure it out... too impatient to wait for the manual... but one thing is stumping me... is there an e-brake on these things? if so, where. If not, is the only way to keep it from rolling away in neutral to put the outriggers down?
