New to me g900 lots of ????

Hello guys, I finally found a great deal on a 1969 G900. Older farmer really gave me ( a young guy ) a great deal on it. Tires are good, runs decent looks good, very straight.

Now it has the closed center hyd on it. It leaks from about every place possible. What is the best fluid to use ATF, (like I do in all the other MM"s)??

I have no experience with the external steering cylinder but it seems pretty simple, it seems to steer easier one way than the other, but it still steers hard and the pump makes a lot of noise (full of oil) Someone put an inline fuel filter in the steering line under the dash.

Also there is a copper line coming from the dipstick tube going nowhere what is this for?

Lastly the transmission lube pressure light comes on at an idle?? Maybe something is pluged??

Thanks for all your help, I"m also looking for an operators manual.

Yes. Mine has and does. It comes on at a higher idle the hotter the rear end fluid gets. You can adjust the pressure up but I wouldn't go nuts over it. I went nuts over it once, dumped the rear end fluid, checked the screen filter in the bottom. Everything was fine.

Congratulations! I can help with the hydraulic oil. NOT ATF! I use the "green" oil in my 1355 (aka Hi-tran). Of course I live in green community and borrow equipment from time to time...keeps me from contaminating their oil...

Are you talking HyGard? I work at a large JD dealership. All of our other equip has ATF in it. Is there a reason to not use ATF?

Only real reason I can give you is that the 670 supplement says not to use ATF on closed center systems in big letters. I'm sure an oil expert can help you better than me. Growing up we had all mm and then got a white. Real pain lugging the different cylinders around.

I use low vis JD hygard in the hydraulics and steering. Standard JD hygard in the transmission/differential.
