MM ZAU HELP!

I just purchased my great-grandparents MM ZAU. I am the proud 4th generation owner of the tractor. I am new to MM's. The tractor has been sitting in a shed for nearly 30 years (not running), and the engine is stuck. I've read all the posts on trying solvents and currently have a mixture of ATF and PB blaster soaking in the cylinders. I was just curious on what the do's and don'ts are on these motors? Also the serial # tag is very rusty and unable to read...any ideas to get it clean? Wanting to fully restore this tractor.

If you bring the blocks to machine shop for work, find one who can pressure test the water jacket. The valve set up cast into the blocks makes finding cracks around the valves difficult. Its best to know if your blocks are good before you put a bunch of money in them. Good luck.
 
Nice tactor get some mm repair books. Engine is not to bad to work on just different in design. Be carful as some parts are hard to get and exspencive. Some stuff on Ebay and look at MM specific sites.
 
It's hard to tell how "stuck" the engine is because if it's been inside it may not be all that bad. You can try jacking up the back of the tractor and putting it in gear and rocking one of the rear wheels back and forth to see if the engine will free up.

If not you'll need to take the engine apart to rebuild it. There is a one piece head and two blocks. The head and blocks are easily removed once the side cover has been removed. It is true some shops have a hard time testing and boring those blocks because they have a blind cyl hole. Good luck, a ZA is a great project, parts are still redialy available.
 
I have the parts/repair manual and operator manual for sale.
I also have quite a few ZA salvage parts.
