Finally got the engine out of the M5 and got to putting it on the engine stand. It held up so far, so my welding must be passable lol....The cherry picker is one my dad made over 25 years ago so I could overhaul my car engine. He is the one I learned it from.... :)

really like your engine stand, its probly been asked before whats the gearbox from? is there a lock/rachet setup on it? think i'll have to make one like it i have 2 store bought engine stands a 1/2 ton and a 1 ton and it makes me nervous hangin a inline 6 on them from just the back.

also your jack thats under the flywheel i have a jack that is indentical but missing that release rod on the handle

Thank you. The gearbox is from an old Lindsay sileage wagon, and the handle from a Kewannee elevator. I did put a lock on it. The two curved pieces are the ends of two scrapers from a Kewannee disc and then part of one in the center that locks on a bolt through a sleeve. It can be locked in the position it is now or with the pan side up. I made both ends movable in or out so I would have some room to move so to speak for mounting an engine on it and bearings so it would be easier to turn. I can move the gearbox assembly back about 4" and the other end moves about 6" back and forth. I know what you mean about hanging a motor on some of the store bought ones. I dont think it would be to hard to make a rod for your jack. I think they are 3/16" rod. My dad has had that jack for longer than Ive been alive I believe..lol

Alan, looks like a very good set up you"ve got there. You weren"t scared lifting the engine by two head bolts?

Refresh me, what did you remove the engine for?

Scared, me? Ummm...yes..lol. It had a knock in it and want to check everything else over, probably do the valves and re-ring it and replace one head on it. I figured if I dont one day it was going to go bang and then I would have thought...gee I guess I should have looked at it.
