G950 LP Question and JS3 Question

Im trying to get some facts together on some estate tractors for my late neighbor. They may go to auction or they may get advertised on this website, im just helping with a little research for the widow. There are just two MM tractors among a large collection of john deeres and a few farmalls.

Could anybody kindly tell me the production numbers of the G950 LP? I know thy are fairly uncommon compared to the diesel models. This one has a flat grill and not the bubble nose. Were less flat nose models produced? Seems like most of the 950s I see have a bubble nose. Any difference in value?

Also there is a Jet Star 3 with a 220 gasoline motor. It really looks quite original, but I thought the 220 was exclusive to the U302 tractor. Is this a replacement motor in this jet star?

Thanks in advance for any input gentlemen-

The G950 flat grilles were the later models, I have a 1971 diesel. I think it was later 1970 when they changed them. I dont have my numbers list in front of me at the moment. I thought the 220s were just in the U302s as well. Do you have any pictures of the tractors you can post?

I have a 1967 Jet star 3 super LP that has a replacement 220 engine. My list of serial numbers for that engine show it is later than 1970. There were a few Jet star 3 supers that came from the factory with the 220 engine. Not sure which list I found that out. Value is anybody's guess, that JS3S could be 1500-3500.

Art,
Of the 186 G950LP made approximately 1/3 were flat nose. The change occurred midway through the 1971 production year which was the last year for G950LP production.
There were a small handful of JS3 made with the 220A-4 engine from the factory as special orders. Only the serial number data from Floyd County would confirm if it is an original or a replacement engine.

To add to what the others have posted, the Jet 3 may have had the engine replaced with the 220. The starter should be mounted with three bolts rather than, one larger "set" type bolt. To replace a 206 with a 220 is just an afternoon job it will bolt right up to the Jet 3, I"ve seen several Jet"s with the 220, and I"ve even seen U302"s with a 206. It"s highly likely that the engine in the Jet 3 went bad and someone replaced it with a 220 maybe even to get some more power.

Thanks again for all the input folks. I spoke with the family about the information I received on this forum.

Upon a closer look at both tractors- The 950 is sitting on 4 bald tires, one bad rim, needs new batteries, seat is awful, leaky radiator, and a PTO that always spins. I told them a fair price may be around 1500-2500. It needs a lot of work.

The Jet 3 Super is a little better. Needs a few gaskets replaced, seat, battery, instrument panel is unreadable. It runs well and TA is good. I told them around 1500-2000 would be fair.

If I sneak home one more tractor this year I am quite certain my wife will leave me. Therefore I told these folks to advertise on this website when they are ready to sell the 950 and JS3.

Thanks once again for the information and suggestions. -Art
