283A thermostat

Fellas,
My U engine rebuilt, water pump rebuilt, radiator core new, Thermostat new, gauge is new.
So what happens is it will go to very edge of green then drop rapidly to center of range but it does not take much to bring temp back up to higher end of normal.
Should I run a thermostat or try another? Also what is normal temp range for a 283A on propane?
Thanks for your thoughts, Tony

Im guessing you have to drill a bypass hole in your thermostat. I believe 1/8" is what they normally drill them at. The older thermostats had the bypass built in them, but the newer ones dont.
