Power Steering on a 670

MY 670 wants to fight itself when turning one direction. Power steering works fine the other way. DO I have to remove/rebuild the power steering unit? or is it simple?

Thanks, Marty

Try loosening the 4 allen screws on steering valve and then move steering wheel back and forth.
Assuming you don't have hydrostatic steering, This will center steering valve pin then tighten screws and give it a try. Let us know if this helps.

My 670 is leaking fluid on the left side of the power steering unit. I have had it apart twice and put new orings on both times and it still leaked. Is this a special o-ring? I also thought it could be the line, so I took old one out and braized a new one in and it still leaks. Has anyone ever had this problem?
Thanks,
Kurt

If its the Ross brand valve on the non super 670, they are prone to leaking out around the steering shaft. I have one M5 that the steering works good but it leaks some. The other M5 I rebuilt and it doesnt leak, but needs adjusting as it doesnt work properly. There has to be a small amount of play in the shaft for it to work properly and most of the time that includes a leak.

I'm not sure if is a Ross gear or not, but it is definately leaking around the O-ring. I may try to get a square cut O-ring to try instead, there is a lot of grove left with the standard O-ring installed.

This is the steering valve that is on my M5. Your M670 should be basically the same. There were some changes on the early M5 valves and the later M5 ones, mainly O ring placement in the valve its self. You could possibly try a thicker O ring, unless somehow you are getting oil pressure leak when the valve moves. Does it leak without moving the steering wheel? These always seem to be a trouble spot on these tractors. Ive heard stories of some of them not work properly when new.

I guess I'm not using the proper terminology. My 670 is leaking from where the fluid goes in to move the piston (left side of tractor, under the nose tin). There is about a 5 inch metal cap/plug that is held in with a snap ring. The hydraulic/power steering line enters into the ceter of it. Fluid leaks out of there when it is running or sitting. The line was quite rusty so I replaced it (the old one was braised in and so is the new one). Anyway the fluid appears to be leaking around the O-ring. I have replaced the O-ring twice, but it still seeps.

Ok. The only thing I can think of at the moment is if there is a small edge or burr that cuts the O ring on installation. Ive replaced the ones on one of my M5s and it still seeps a little.
