G950 rear main seal question?

Going to have to put a rear main seal in my G950. Does the tractor have to be split for it? Tried looking on agco's website for parts. The seal picture is good but the pictures of the crank and some o ring seals (?) arent the best. Any info is appreciated.

Don't think so. Believe it is still a packing rather than a lip seal. Need to drop the pan for sure and with a lot of luck and a special tool you can fish the upper half of the new seal around the crank. A better chance of success is to loosen all the main bearings and lower the crankshaft enough that installing the upper half isn't such an ordeal. My GVI was leaking bad and didn't have the tool. An "experienced" MM mechanic said an alternative was to "jam" the upper seal on both sides which would tighten it up, but will leave a gap on both bottom sides. Install a new lower half but leave the seal ends extra long so it will fill this gap. That is what I did which certainly significantly slowed the leak and for a limited use tractor probably OK. But I wouldn't do this on a working tractor or one that was being restored.
