My tractor has a Gresen canister hydraulic filter on it. The mounting holes are broken out on the top of the housing and it is missing the bypass valve, so it doesn"t really filter the oil. I would like to replace it with a new assembly with a spin on filter. Northern sells the whole assembly with a 50 gpm filter for filtering oil returning to the tank for $40. Would this work? I am wondering if the original setup is a suction filter, because it seems oil is pulled through it from the reservoir to the inlet of the pump. Anybody out there had any experience with this? Thanks in advance for your replies!
