Can someone explain to me what ebay messed up on????

I went to ebay like I always do and clicked on my last search...Minneapolis Moline and over 57,000 items showed up. After viewing listings of a "few" items that werent anything to do with MM....There seems to not be a regular listing of Antique tractors and farm equipment like there used to be under Business and Industrial. Now it is listed as Heavy equipment > Antique and Vintage Farm equipment....am I missing something or is it just monday????
 
Apparently I cant use my recent searches link or all brands come up in the listings. I dont know why that would have changed. I do get just MM listings if I use advanced search and use "exact words". Has anyone else had that problem? Even what I had listed for sale in a specific catagory has been changed to a different catagory.
 
Mine still works, I never select a category I just type in minneapolis moline. And all I get is MM stuff to pop up.
 
Mine used to work that way but apparently ebay messed with my homepage searches. I had called ebay and was told there were changes that were scheduled for the 28th of April, some were updates for catagories. When I type in minneapolis moline I get everything that is listed in the new catagory....JD IH Ford etc. The only way I found to get just the MM items is if I do an advanced search with "exact words". Sometimes another brand would pop up IF another brand was mentioned, but the listings I was getting had no mention of anything else. Maybe it was just monday.....lol
 
My Epay is all messed up also. Im not viewing 56000 some odd products of all makes and models. I dont buy alot on ebay but I am interested in what is selling. I think I might close my account.
 
Hey Alan, check out the tractor talk forum, seems others are having the same problem as you,on eBay. It's the one with the title that says What happened?
 
Try the advanced search with "exact words" selected and see if that helps. That is what I had to do. I thought maybe I was going loopy or something if I was the only one with the problem.
 
....and I forgot to add.. file a complaint on the site under the "tell us what you think" and the "were these search results helpful" links. That is what the gal on the phone from ebay told me to do.
 
I did an experiment...I typed in Oliver and selected Business and Industrial....just over 5,000 items showed up...and were just Oliver. When I did the same thing with MM...over 56,000 showed up that were mostly JD and IH..with no mention of MM on the listing. It doesnt seem to be consistent between each brand.

I think they made a change behind the scenes to "help all of us"...

As near as I can tell, their main search - instead of searching for the keywords as entered - now just tries to guess anything related to what they think you are after - probably in hopes of making more sales...

Extremely frustrating to me, too, since I'm used to using a lot of specific keywords and excluded keywords to narrow down my searches...

I also noticed the change and did their survey at the bottom of the page and said the search results were not helpful and the I wished they would leave things alone stated that farm tractors are not heavy equipment.

Hi Howard, I believe you are right on the money with that one. I think its going to hurt more than help sales. I sell things on there like alot of people do and if no one can find it how will it get sold? Like my dad always said...they are constantly trying to "improve" things. Maybe if enought people complain...something will be changed. I remember the first internet search engines....if you typed in anything that had the word "the" in it....you would get 2,000,000 hits with the word the in them. G1355 had mentioned the discussion over at the tractor talk forum (by the way, thank you G1355) on the same subject. I had said if I sell a tractor on ebay should it be listed in the shoe catagory? It came from a farm and was around a cow....a cow has a hide that is made into shoes...lol :)
 
Apparently now a person has to put quotation marks for a specific search. Typing in just Minneapolis Moline gets you everything, JD IH construction equipment etc but "Minneapolis Moline" gets just MM items...I never had to do that before.....but thank goodness they improved that for me... :/
 
And I was just thinking it was me , and being old and set in my ways. Don't like it either but will try the "alternate methods" you guys figrd out.
 
They took agriculture and forestry and changed it to Heavy Equipment Parts & Accs. Type in Minneapolis Moline in this heading and search in Heavy Equipment parts and accessories. But they are having issues with the save search files.
 
I thought it was just me....I dont mind having to do something different as long as I CAN find it, but I dont like jumping through hoops to find it, and having some of the listings not even appear. Its like going through some discount stores...and trying to find your way out the door if you didnt buy anything...they kind of herd people out like cattle...lol
