MM 5 star - power steering does not work

1959 MM 5 star the power steering does not work. I can steer it, but have to man handle it to turn.

If I use the front end loader to lift the front end off the ground, it turns freely. The three point hitch and of course the front end loader work just fine.

I had to take the radiator off to get a leak fixed and figured that I might as well take a look at the steering problem as well.

I can see what looks like a pump or some hydraulic device on the front - driver side. Not far from the radiator. I am guessing that this is source of the problem, it needs repaired or replaced.

Anyway what are some first steps on trying to troubleshoot the problem and or what is most likely the fix?

More than likely it is the steering valve actuating pin that is worn. Did it stop working all of a sudden or was it always this way?

As I recall it went out all of a sudden.

Where is this pin located?

Check your Flow Diveder valve in the pump first. Test pressure in line to PS.

The pin is inside the steering valve, I can see if I can post a picture later but since it stopped working suddenly I would try what MMDEL said first....he is ALOT more knowledgeable than I am on these...

If it has had another holder put on close to the steering valve, check if it is binding. Just loosed it.
