So.............What do I do now?

I milled the jugs down on my 5 Star and now the push rods are too long. What should I do, cut off some of the bottom of the rod or grind down the head of the rocker arm? Or, is there a better way to solve this dilema? Thanks, Dan

I would call a machine shop and see if they can research pushrod lengths and find some that would be the correct length for you engine now.

I think you're right, John. The length I need is 16-1/2". If anyone knows where I can find this length I'd appreciate the info.

You da man, Jason. Worked great. I was concerned in the beginning for the valve cover clearence, but no problem. Thanks, you made my day.
Oh, by the way, the problem with my DEF was a bad sensor. They are having problems with them.

If you hold the entire pushrod in the center of the main part so that it doesn't kink it but does hold it firmly you will be able to heat and remove with a pliers the solid non cup end (lifter side) once you do that you will be able to use your run of the mill tubing cutter to reduce the OAL of the pushrod to your 16 1/2" remember to add the length of the soon to be re-installed end to your measurement.

Once you have the entire pushrod mocked up place a tack weld on the end to secure it to the pushrod again and repeat!

Take your time or have a spare pushrod you can over heat the ends or mushroom them in the install remove process also make sure that the ends are on straight and that your OAL is correct before welding

This is very interesting, Underdog. I was able to remedy my situation with the shims. However, I can see that this process will be useful. It looks like a guy would be able to lengthen a rod by heating and removing both ends then partially inserting them back onto the rod and tacking in place. Does that sound logical to you?

I am not 100% sure about removing the cup(rocker) end however in theory I guess you could I know to reduce the OAL this does work and will hold up until you decided to chance your setup I maybe should have taken pictures years ago when I did mine!

Glad it worked for you. I had to do the same thing one time.

I heard they were haveing problems with those DEF sensors, hopefully they come up with a better design.
