ryan hopkes 02-16-2013 15:24:54 96.2.96.177 Report to Moderator	hey guys i got a g6 diesel and it seems to take alot of ether to start it you have to keep sprayin it in there for like a min she is pretty cold blooded... do most diesel molines do this? or is there anything i can do to get it to start a lil more easy? it was rebuilt a while back and i had to put head gaskets in it there is no piston slop soo she isnt to tired and it has plenty of power once warmed up [Reply]   [No Email]

The tattle tale is looking at the volume of smoke coming out of the breathers when its running. There should be only be a wisp, not a steady blow. Most G6's i have been around lately are so worn out they dont have a hope of starting unassisted. [Reply]  [No Email]

If ambient is 40 degree F or higher it should start without too much fuss if the timing is correct and the engine is is good shape. If timing is OK, then I would suspect compression is low. I don't reuse MM aluminum pistons in a diesel rebuild if they have any significant hours. They don't use a compression ring cast iron insert and typically the piston ring lands are worn. This can lead to premature compression ring breakage and starting problems. [Reply]  [No Email]

I would check the injection timing first. Our G705 was that way, and when I changed the pump, I found it was advanced about 11 degrees. Same thing, good power but really hard starting. With the pump change, I reset it to pretty close to factory, now I don't need ether at all. [Reply]  [No Email]
