Recently acquired an M5. Drained Amplitorc compartment because grease was mixed with water, etc. Put diesel in to flush (as suggested in owner's manual) Ran the tractor for about 5 minutes, just sitting, not moving. Turned off and went to drain the diesel and nothing comes out. Stuck screwdriver in drain hole thinking just clogged with old grease, still wouldn't drain. Is the amplitorc compartment connected with rear-end? What would be you all's theory on why diesel not draining? Any information would be greatly appreciated. ( I plan to blow some air back through drain tomorrow, best I can thing of)
thank you

If I remember correctly the Ampli-torque compartment only holds like 3 gallons. The rear end gear oil plug should drain all of it as the compartments share the same oil. The plug for the rear end drain is located under the rear end housing by the drawbar support. Im guessing the oil was low and that is why the diesel fuel didnt come out the ampli-torque drain. I havent read the manual for a while on rear end flush but I would GUESS the tractor should be driven a short amount of time to "clean" the rear end or the solvent would just sit.

It is my understanding that the only way oil or diesel gets in the ampltorque compartment is to be thrown off the gears as they rotate and catch in the trough on the side of the case and run down the trough to the front compartment. After it gets full it runs over back into the tranny. So I would think it has to be moving.

Both share the same fluid. but they are two different compartments. the ampli-torq level is higher than the rear end. There are two drain plugs, like Alan says one under the belly above the drawbar and on the lower left side just ahead of step, There are two level plugs on the right one down just above the platform behind the brake lock rod and one ahead of that higher up. When you drain both compartments, you must fill both compartments. Because it takes awhile for the front compartment to fill via the gears as you are driving. And the ampli-torq will not have any lube. Fill the rear through the filler on top of the trans. shifter cover, and the front through the the cover plug on the right where you adjust the ampli-torq. Fill the rear first. Then fill the front leave both level plugs out. If when you fill the front and the rear begins to flow before it flows out the front that is possible because the front plug and the top shaft bearing may not be exactly perfect as to the fluid level. If this happens check with a wire or screwdriver to be sure the fluid is close to the opening for the front level plug. If it is not and the fluid runs out imediately when you start to fill the front, then you have a problem internally.
