Just wondering, How hard is it to make a competitive puller out of an
R Moline? I was thinking 4500# and under Class 3 or 4. It would be
something different instead of Orange or Red. No offense meant
to any other colors. I will post in the pulling forum also. Thanks.

An R would not be competitive at that weight in
those divisions. About 50hp is all you can get from
the flathead style motor. At 4500lbs you would be
pulling against Oliver 88's and Farmall M's. Not a
fair fight.

My uncles have an R with a ZA (206) engine. It dynoed more hp than their ZA, but could not beat the ZA in a pull, because it was losing power through the transmission. They had their R down to 3500 with the driver. 4500 is probably too much for an R.
