I have two UB's, and one goes each way. The one my Dad had (which I grew up on and now own) has the two short rods with the arm in the middle, and up is fast and down is slow.
On the one I bought for a loader tractor when I moved to the country, the two short rods were replaced by one long one, and down is fast, up is slow.
I've gotten used to each one, and don't usually get confused by it. I have 15 other tractors of various makes, and there are different throttle set ups on many of them. It seems that whichever one I happen to be on, I just seem to automatically know what to do.
