I have an old MM and was told that it is a 335. The serial number plate is missing and I am trying to find out if it is indeed a 335 or not. One reason that I wonder is because in my repair catalog for the 335 it shows the crankcase part number being 11B6500 and what is on the tractor is a 10A6500. The repair catalog also says that the the block should be a 10A5834B and that the heads should be a 10A5853A, and what I have is a block numbered 10A9199 and heads numbered 10A5856.

Are there any key indicators as to what this model might be. From all the pictures I have seen, it certainly looks like a 335 or 445, but I have no real way of knowing exactly what it is.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
You might try looking at the engine serial # plate. If the engine is a 165 cubic inch, its a 335. The 445 would have a 206 engine. Hope this helps.
The engine serial # plate should be on the left side of the engine.
 
If the rear axles have bearing caps on the outer ends of the housing & it has or had a cross for the grill, it is a 445. The 335 has no bearing caps on the ends of the housing.
 
On the crankcase part number at least. The 10A6500 will be the part number of the raw casting (raised letters) The 11B6500 number indicates a machined or modified part. HTH

Is the engine serial plate an actual plate, or are the numbers cast into the engine. I cannot find a plate anywhere on the engine.
 
Both plates are metal plates. If they are missing you should find rivits or rivit holes where they were. The plates were about 2 1/2" x 4" rectangular plates. Only raised numbers are raw casting numbers and finished part numbers were probably ink stamped on finished parts. They changed the prefix and suffix to indicate revisions or modifications.
