I sure don't understand this at all. Today I un hooked the air cleaner from the carb and sprayed ether into the carb, had the throttle wide open and the vapor on, the thing took right off, Runs pretty smooth sounds good, I drove it around the yard and when the temp reached about 160 the front freezplug on the middle block let go. The old one was leaking and I found some dish type new ones. The seating area for them are badly rusted. I used high tack and then went over the outside of them with JB Weld. I sure hate to have to ruin a head gasket an tear it all down but how else can I fix this? Can I get anthing to glue it back on top of the paint?? I have read about putting a wedge in there to hold them. I am for doing things right so I guess I will have to get after it. Worst thing is I have to buy a new gasket set unless I can find individuals.

Not sure what tractor u are working on but this sounds familar with us. We had a moline with the same problem and had to tear it back down all the way. Depending on what it is u may need to tear the pan off to.

When you put the soft plug in ,did you hit it in the middle with a big punch to push the center in? Thats how they stay in by expanding the plug. I had a machine shop take the old ones out when they cleaned the head and ground valves. When they put the new ones in they didn't dimple it enough and it came out between the heads. They paid for the gaskets.

I mite have a new head gasket for a 705, I would have to look as I have a few new ones for my M-M s.
I would be tempted to reuse the old gasket , covering it good with sealer. Prob would put a can of stop leak in to , just to be on the safe side.
This was done on a UB L P G many years ago that blew a middle freeze plug:
Clean out the groove where the plug sets, Braze or J B weld a new plug to an old screwdriver. Carefully work it into place , then take another old screwdriver and drive it in behind the first one , from the other side of the head, expanding the freeze plug. It is a good idea to cut the handels off , so no one will try to yank them out.
I have gotten parts from this man up in Ill. He has M-M parts . Rob Odah, 815 379 2377. He should have head gaskets.

Thanks for all the response guys. No I have never put that type of plug in before. Now I have learned the hard way. I will remove the center head. I put copper coat on everything. If a gasket gets torn it just does. I can expect the worst because it usually is!!! I don"t know if I should feel happy or displeased tonight....

What Clint says will work. If you don't weld the screwdriver to the plug (use something real sticky, like a heavy grease. Put some fresh sealer on the edge of the plug) you don't have to leave them in provided you was able to dimple the plug enough. I used a special tool I made for this. After you get it in and crushed as best you can. Take a square nut the right thickness and drive it in place at the center of the plug for added holding power. No one will ever see it.
If you do take the head off. You said you used Copper Coat (that is the best). Wash the gasket off with solvent, dry. Spray Copper coat (allways use the spray, the dobber in the can doesn.t stay mixed and doesen't apply as even.) Coat the gasket. let dry over night, put on a second coat, let dry for a few hours, spray coat again and let get tacky. Put it on and torque the head. You should be fine
