Help with M5

wind jammer

I need some help with a M5 that we use for some bush hogging and pushing snow. I am in harford county maryland. It is having power steering and hydraulic problems. I am not a mechanic. We have a John Deere dealer but they will not work on it.They will give me 1000 towards a new tractor. I understand there is someone in the Rising Sun maryland area that has and still uses MM tractors. I can not find out however any contact info. Would this be one of the guys on here? I would be willing to pay someone to help me and it would be great to find someone who is local to me that also has some yellow tractors. Sorry for the long post

I am no expert on M5 but order a repair manual and any decent tractor mechanic should be able to pin it down. We would need a lot more information as to what happened to help you much.

There are three things that cause steering not to work. #1 Hydraulic pressure to low. #2 The steering pump needs rebuilt. # 3 The cylinder that runs cross ways under the radiator and front grill needs a new sleeve and rebuild kit. Have you changed the Hyd. Filter and oil. It requires a non foaming hyd fluid especialy if you have a 3 pt. hitch.

Do all the grease zerks on the front end assy. take grease and do you grease it often? I know this is something simple but often over looked. Some times it can be a simple silly fix. Armand

My M5 had the same issues. I replaced a broken "steering valve" and the hydraulic pump that is on it is a no-longer operating aftermarket. I bought a working pump from an M5 that fell off a trailer on the highway - bad for the tractor, good for me. A repair manual will be the best tool you have for your troubles...
