I just picked up a MM Z on an auction. I am having govenor problems with it, not familiar witn MM so am in the dark. The throtle cable moves up to the govenor but the tractor runs full throtle when started. After the govenor the throtle cable seems to be stuck. Also the guy that had this tractor was sort of a collector and had told me it was highly collectable befor he passed away, Any way the serial # is hard to read but as close as I can tell it starts out with 000001 was wondering if anyone knew if these numbers had a specific meaning. Any information would be helpfull.

As far as collector nothing to exstencive there about like a JD B or Farmall H (but a little better tractor)!!!!! Governor should be on the side of motor (if old modle z) check all the linkage for wear/stuck. Thought some of these had a rod not a cable???

The only 00000 I see is in 0065000001 or 0075000001 or 0095000001 or 0085000001. All are 1950 ZA models, 1st made which is probably why po said it is collectable. 0065 is ZAU, 0075 is ZAS, 0085 is ZAN, 0095 is ZAE.

I have had all kinds of problems with my ZB. Take the plate off the bottom of your govenor. My govenor was wore out on inside. The whole was so worn in the cast iron arm that the governor rod was lodging against the side wall. I had motec engineering rebuild it.The bearing insde could also be worn out.

You say 'throttle cable' twice, which makes me think your Z's controls have been modified in some way.

Neither the ZT nor the ZA nor the ZB used a cable to control the governor, it was all levers and linkage rods.

Could you post some pictures of the throttle setup?

Thanks for the info I will check it but the linkage rods seem to be almost in new condition they were coated with grease and paint and I cleaned them off but may not had did a a good enough job at it. When the tractor is not running and you move the throtle shound the carb linkage move or does the tractor have to be running? Dave

When you move the throttle all the linkage should move all the way to the carburetor, with the motor shut off. If not, check for stuck linkage.
