No. It'll grind up in a short while. I am thinking of the fan hub with the tapered roller bearings in it.

I am thnking you want a slight preload on the bearings when cold.

You have a clearance problem, Perhaps the new bearing cones were longer than the old ones. Or the cups were not as long.

You may have to put a shim behind the front cone to tighten it up.

P.S.: How did you get the rear cone out of the housing?
 
I think your right about the length of the cones soundes like the
Problem. When I bought the fan hub assembly it was torn down with new bearings and cones in the box.

I'd be keen to know how you got the rear cone out also. Couldn't figure out how to do it without destroying the housing, so left it there.
 
I pressed the front bering cone out then pressed the rear cone thru front cone housing tricky but works.No damage to housing.
