I noticed the other day on our 1947 MM UTS that the flywheel is marked "DC2-3". What does this mean? I am presuming that maybe it means that the flywheel should be put on with the mark lined up with the bell housing mark when pistons #2 and 3 are on top dead center but this does not seem normal too me because typically I am used to having #1 on TDC when the timing marks are lined up. Any clarification would be appreciated.
Also, when setting the valve tappets on our 1967 MM U302 I noticed that it's flywheel was on in such a why that the same timing marks were lined up as noted above when pistons #2 and 3 where on TDC. This motor had been rebuilt years ago and I am wondering if this is correct or if it was put on 180 degrees off where it should be (so piston #1 is on TDC)?
Any help would be appreciated.
