I finally got a Moline U, I have owned about 50 tractors but this is only my second Moline, I have always wanted a U. Anyway if you look at the pictures you can see that someone has installed power steering from a chevy truck. I would like to put it back to original, this is going to be my daughters FFA project. Did some of these UTS have no power steering? Where would be the best place to look for parts around Ohio, KY, or IN. I have heard of a dairy farm in Ohio that has alot of Moline parts. I will be taking the loader off and selling it if anyone is interested.

Power steering did't appear on UTS's until U Special in 1956. Your U appears to be a early 50's model.

thanks for the info, so I guess if I go back original I won't have power steering, I bet its a bear to turn without it.

I don't think any of the MM UTS tractors had power steering.

For Original steering gear (and front axle; it looks like yours is different):

Call Wendell Everett 740-922-3335. Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
He's not there all the time, so keep trying until you get him. Probably the place you heard about, the salvage yard is on a dairy farm.

Also, Welters 417-498-6496 (MO) may be able to help with parts as well.

P.S: What runs the power steering? Is it plumbed into the regular hydraulics, or does it have the Chevy pump belted off the engine?

Late 1952 had an arched front axle and tie rod behind the axel. So it would have to be earlier than that, but after Uni-Matic came out in 1949.

I don't see any of the normal MM hydraulics system under the tank. I'ld also like to know what pump and tank and controls it has for loader. Quite an ingenious set-up for steering, including the steering col too! Wonder if steering box willbe hard to find? Need the mounts for it, all the shafts, and the support for steering wheel and who knows what else. Best to get a parts manual to explore what is needed. That loader looks like tube ones used on Ford 9n's alot.

I have a 54 UTS diesel I'm turning into a puller. I just took the steering box off it and the front axle assembly you can have them for the project if you like. I was going to sell for scrape. I'm located in Virginia near Roanoke off I- 81 exit 143. They are nice pieces, pretty tight. The tractor was not used a lot. 540.eight nine 0- 0240.

The loader is operated off of a front mounted pump that runs off of the crank,if you look close you can see it in the picture. The power steering has its on belt driven pump from (I guess) the same truck that the steering column came from.

Uni-Matic was out in before 1949. HK manual R-1049 was printed in May of 1948., they just started pushing the "Uni-Matic" name in 1949,per paperwork I have, model #'s & design didn't change.
