What does the G stand for?

I believe its more than likely just carried over again and again from when they started MM. GTA...GTB..GB..GVI..etc. The "G" series was always their biggest tractor. Then it became more of a series when the G900 appeared with the G1000 Vista...then the 50 series with the G950 1050 and 1350.. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

I'd say your completely right. Just like the new John deeres they have the "r" series which doesn't mean anything to my knowledge and the "rt" but the t stands for track but don't think the r means anything. Minneapolis moline just liked using letters instead of numbers most brands have numbers and they had mostly all letter models

I had heard of stories years ago that the "GB" stood for "great big" tractor..but they might have just been stories..:)

There is always a good tractor story in the "thrill of the chase" . I once found a U and called the guy he said what Minie did you want because I have 2 . So after going to his other farm I discovered the 1355 but it had a bad engine ( but what a nice huge tractor ) and I passed on it . So I said what about that Super 88 diesel Olie -- so the following spring I ended up bringing the Olie home and she is one of my favorites next to my M5 diesel. Some companies use the G as gas and D diesel but for Minies I think it's just the series

I think the r in a JD is like a Platinum in a Ford pickup. The lower the letter the lower level of hyd and trans options and trim level in the Cab.
