800 crank in a 585

I think the only thing they have in common is that they are both 6 cylinder engines. The 585 was only built as a diesel and the 800 was only built as a gas/LP. I understand the 585 used more studs to hold the blocks/heads to the crankcase.

The 800 has a 6" stroke and the 585 is 5.5". The last 585 crank that went through here had chromed journals. I dont know if they are all that way. None of this means it wont fit but it is not exact either. Jeff
 
Yes, it will. It takes some work with the rear seal I believe. The 585 engine was based off some HD800 dimensions. It is often referred to as the 800 diesel.
