Hello what should the timing for a 445 be set at one place said 3 1/2 btc one said 24 btc it is set at about 2 degrees btc now I think this is why it runs hot (steam in radiator and hot muffler) also where can you buy a thermostat for this animal at agco says dicontinued napa no luck . Thanks Bryan

Info from the I&T manual is for Delco-Remy Dist #1111711 in a 445. Start Advance 0-2 @ 275 rpm, Int. advance 4-6 @ 400 rpm, Max. advance 11.5-13.5 @ 625 rpm. Then in another place they say 25 B @ 1700 rpm. All this with a Breaker Contact gap of 0.022". HTH I would check Welters in MO. or Charlie @ molineparts dot com for a thermostat.

Original thermostat according to parts book was 170 degrees.

On my 4 Star (same engine) I used one for an 8N Ford. It is 160 degree but better than none. I have a note that gives Stant 13518/ CarQuest 31177/ Gates 33108/ NAPA 184 which are 180 degree. I have not checked any of these.

Thermostat goes in top radiator hose. Outlet end may be larger. I used CarQuest/gates hose 20791. As I recall it was a tight fit but has been on and working for 5 years. I also put a hose clamp around the hose to prevent thermostat from being forced forward into radiator.

I priced one from Agco this week for mine. They said $57 and still available. I am going to order one from Steiner tractor that fits an 8n Ford for $22. Steiner number is 1-800-3280.

When installing the thermostat be sure and drill a small (1/8)hole in the outer edge of the thermostat. This will allow a small amount of coolant to circulate and bring heat up to it so it will open.
