G-vi rear gears

I was wondering if there are any other slower rear gears for a G6? It seems that 1st gear is too fast for alot of things, (like beating a 660 ihc in a tractor pull).

The problem may not be in the rear, it might be up front under the hood. If your engine is stock I would concentrate on making more HP. Is it diesel or LP? How about rear tires as a way to slow it down? If you're running the 18.4/34, maybe you could go down to a 16.9/34? The real early U had slower gears I think but I don't know how they'd swap into a GVI.

You make a good point. My G6 is stock, except for the fuel screw is all the way out. It makes rated power at 100 rpm over spec. (78hp @ 1500 RPM). I thot that was pretty good at 3500 ft above sea level. The 660 could make a little more but his big advantage is his super slow first gear. We are equals if he uses 2nd. If traction is not good on a given day it can go either way. As for tires, we both run 18-34s, he runs R1W radials but i dont see the advantage. I do have a set of 16.9s on a GTB that i could try quite easily. I run new Firestone 23degree on everything.

Which fuel pump do you have? If its a roosamaster, there is more than one fuel screw. The real one is down inside the pump.

Its got the American Bosch PSB6A-80D. When you take off the top cover and the fuel shut off cover, I moved the stop up far enough that the lever on the shut off cover side is right against the post.
