Mag vs Distributor and drive gears (335 vs Z)

I'm wishing to convert my 220 power unit magneto ignition over to a distributor (in my 335 tractor) and didn't know if a gear swap was required as it is in the older Z/R series tractors. Any input? Thanks.

I think the mag turns crank speed and is reduced in the mag, that how it was in a r mag. you could turn it by hand and watch it.

You can count the teeth on the oil pump shaft gear and the gear on the camshaft that drives it.

12 on oil pump shaft and 24 on camshaft are set up for magneto.

16 teeth on each are set up for distribuitor.

I have been told that if you just put a distribuitor on a magneto drive, it may start but will do all kinds of funny pops. This from the extra sparks when the valves are open, I guess.
