I bought a g1000 diesel that had 3 cracked heads. Luckily I had 3 good spares. We have never cracked a head on our diesels once we owned them. Ours never get pulled hard anymore though.

are all the moline diesel heads usualy the same?? beacuse there is a junk yard near me that has a few four cylinder moline diesels from about the same year would one of them possibly work?

I am thinking the GVI used the 10A4222 heads. I know the M5 and M602 do. The early M670's may have used that one also. I am pretty sure the same head was used on the G705, G707 and early (low band) G1000's. I know the later G1000's had a different head number, but not sure what the difference was there. I am pretty sure the g1000 heads could be swapped, so maybe they could be swapped to other tractors. I am thinking g900 heads might be different.

GVI diesels used 10A4214 heads as did U, UB & 5* diesels (All originally 4-1/4 bore). 10A4222 heads were used on 4-5/8 bore engines.

A crack in a cylinder head is not abnormal, but not all cracks are a disaster either. We've been reconditioning cyl. heads for some time now and the only way to determine the seriousness of a crack is to have it pressure tested. We've been doing that here also for some time now, in fact, we've just purchased a brand new cyl. head pressure tester. Some heads with cracks don't leak, but may need some preventive work, not unlike what the dentist does to you to save your own chompers. This type cyl head situation is not only on our/your MM heads, we test any/all heads that are suspect. We also try to keep 50-100 reconditioned MM cyl. heads on the shelf, customer ready at all times. Dale and Doug, River Dale Farms, 920 295 3278.

ok cool thanks for the info!! umm i think them tractors out in the junk yard are 5* diesels but the guy is worryed about sellin me one in case its cracked too.... is it possible to weld up a crack? beacuse it only gives me problems when its warmed up when the cast expands

The 5 star diesel may have the 10A4222 heads like the M5. The 5 star diesel had a 336 diesel, while the gas and lp 5 stars had the 283 engine. I cannot comfirm the head # for the 5 star since I cannot find my 5 star parts manual at this time.
