jet star steering

Hi folks,
I have enjoyed reeding this forum for years
and wondered if some one can help me out. One
of our jet star tractors (brown 61-62) the weld
broke on the shaft that goes through the bearing
cage assembly and then theres a heavy metal plate
the inner tie rods attach to. I have an IT manual and it looks much like fig. MM612-335 but
not exactly, paragraph 15 page 10. I have removed
the snap ring from the top, my question is can
I use a pulley puller to remove the sttering sector? I need to get this shaft out so I can weld it strong back on the bottom plate. Also
can anyone tell me which lines go where on the
power steering valve on this tractor? PS hasn't
worked in years and I may have some thing crossed. thanks for your help.

There is a bearing on top of the selector gear that needs to be pulled first. Then the gear could be pulled off. My steering controller is like the m5. This type has 4 lines out the side. Top left goes to the front left. Top right goes to the right side. The bottoms are marked on the bottom side. Front bottom (in)comes from the pump. The bottom right (out) returns to the resvior. Hope this helps.

thanks ksmms for your reply,
there is no bearing on the top of this assembly,
just a snap ring
there is a key in the top gear (steering sector?)
can I remove this with a puller I dont want to break this part and really be up a creek.
thanks again
jim

Look on the bottom of the control valve, Some of them say 'in' and 'out' on them. That should get the flow from pump and to reservoir straightened out.

Also, the actuator pin may be worn out. it runs in a slot in the steering shaft behind the valve and is a tight fit in the shaft. A few thousands wear makes the power assist nonexistent.
