M602 AND U302

can i get some comments on these two tractors. my dad is looking for something that we can cut, rake, and run a small NH round baler with. i know that the 602 is bigger around 64 hp and the 302 is a 220cube tractor around 47hp. i know size does matter and hp but out of the two which would be the better tractor. i know price matters also and both are said to be in good running condition and good tires and price seems to be in the fair range of both. which one has the most or the least problems and maybe easier to find parts for and stuff like that. me and my brother has a GVI and a U but never got around any newer molines. thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated.

Either tractor would work fine. The 302 would be a little handier for the jobs you describe. A little newer Hydo-Static power streering. More desirable for resale. A popular tractor in todays market. If you have hills and are pulling a wagon behind the baler for the bales. Maybe the heavier 602 would have an advantage. I guess your choice is the condition and price you want to pay bethween the two.

We used a diesel 602 since I was a kid to mow and bale hay and straw , it works better than the 4x4 John Deere that just replaced it (by the way I'm in my fourtys now) we lve in central Pa. with lots of hills

I agree with Del , but my choice would be the 602. With it you will have that good old high torque MM engine that will get you thru the heavy , hard going. Hard to beat those low RPM s,big 336 cubes day after day.
My two pennies worth. clint

we are in sc and there arent any hills where we are. we got a 8 ft disc mower, a 7 ft bushhog, a 10 ft pull disc harrow, a 8 wheel hydraulic pull type hay rake and a 634 new holland round baler that makes a 4x4 650lb round bale. i pull them now with a 2150 jd tractor 45hp and have no problems but want something little more comfortable to ride on. i was thinking of the 302 but wanted comments from people who know more about them and one that could still get parts for if needed. thanks

The M602 was only built for less than two years but it is nearly identical to the M5 it replaced and the M670 that replaced it. So there should be plenty of parts available. I like my M670 and it was built for less time before they went to the M670 Super.

I'd vote for the U302. They are about the handiest tractor MM made. To me, a M602 is clumsier to drive, but it does have more horse power. I don't know how much power you will need for a round bailer.

Put 13,000 hours on a 602d many years ago, great tractor for real work. For what you want medium utility would recommend the 302g much improved power steering, the ATs are the same not quite tough enough for a hot 602 our delivered over 72 hp the day it was delivered. The 302 will be much nicer to drive. They all had hydro-static steering starting at 302,670,Jet Three and up. The early power assist system was a stop gap that required a lot of work to keep working right.

i would rather have more than i need to do the work and i was told today that the 602 would be easier to find parts for if needed cause you dont hear of many 302 that are parted out. i can get both for the same money but the 302 has a new set of tires on it. i think i would rather have parts availability there also. im gonna talk to another guy tomorrow that has molines and see where he is on them also.
