Build a Stutgard Za

I am considering building an articulated Za simular to a Stutgard . Does anyone have any input on how to transfer power from the power unit to the rear end?

On the one I saw in Ohio once they used a timing belt between the power unit and the clutch shaft on the front transmission. Had a hole cut in the top of the bell housing for the belt to run through.

where do you get the power connected from the front half? I would probably use a chain drive jack shaft and u-joint

The drive to the rear transmission was through a large tube coupler that also served as the pivot point between the two transmissions. I would presume it contained a short shaft and two Universal joints between the clutch shafts of the transmissions.

The gear shift on the rear transmission had been extended and the operator could probably shift it by reaching out the rear cab window. For most driving you probably only use the front transmission and only shift the rear one into gear when you really want to pull something.

thanks I understand how to hook rear through the clutch input shaft But I am not shure where to get the power output from the front, pto would run to slow

Just a thought here. Are you possibly thinking of orienting the trans/rearends the same direction? All the ones I've seen point the trans/rearends bellhousing to bellhousing and usually flip the front ring gear over to drive the opposite direction. Maybe I'm missing your point.
