My 15 year old son just bought a GB diesel and he has a vision. I have a HD605 and he would like to bolt his diesel heads on and convert it to a diesel. I know some head bolt holes have to be drilled, and my 605 has the webbed jugs. has anyone ever tryed this swap? Thanks.

Will we be able to safley bore the jugs to 4.75 on a diesel? If it were a gas enginge I wouldent bat an eye, but the detonation and compresion of a diesel makes me nervous. The reason I ask is because a few years ago I bought a set of 4.75 M&w pistons that the previous owner milled the dome off and had ran them in a 5 star diesel and he cracked two cylinder walls. We have the webed jugs Im not sure what he had.

Yes just make sure you use jugs from a newer 504 or 336 diesel. Sleeves will easily fix cracked cylinder walls lol. I'm running a 4.75" bore diesel 4 cylinder.

minnmoman has lots of good ideas, just ask his parts yard in Wisconsin. How about Cat pistons? Those are 4.75". With a 605 crank you got 640 CID and you can run the short jugs on your original GBD crankcase. Yes go with the Roosa-Master pump, you will get way more fuel out of that than you can from the Bosch.

U might want to research, 605 crank ,off set grind ,, add alitttle stroke, newer m.m. Rods cummins pistons, taper the rods at the top, regrind cam , or go with a newer cam, cam grinds are a little better , look at the heads gb heads might be little tighter on compression ..maybe look for newer heads flow .more air,, gotta run a rosamaster pump run ,big head on it ,can go bigger. Pistons, may cost ya some, but will work,,jus my too cents

I forgot to mention he cant run any HD800 parts. I think he could get away with an early 800 lower end and jugs though. this tractor will be pulled in the clasic classes at 10% over factory high idle. Is there enouff cast in the top of the early 800 jugs to drill and put in the missing studs? I did get a roosa master pump and drive today but no lines. Im starting to think a 585 with the small bell from a gb gas may be the way to go. Then rework a gas flywheel?? I dont know.

Then just put a 605HD crank in a 504dhd. Use a differtent rod and piston, get up to 650-675 cid fairly easy.

I think a HD 800 bottom and 5.400 bore cat pistons would be a great combo to do this and keep the compression in line.
