Howdy folks, Just bought an old MM, mainly for the loader that came with it.I"m wondering if it has a high low range. Previous owner knows about as much as me, which ain"t much. Left of the shifter is a short lever, is that the PTO engage? Right of the shifter is a small housing that looks like a shaft has been there once and has been ground flat now. Wonder what that was? Brakes, throttle and clutch I have figured out. Reason I ask is because this thing goes like stink and maybe its due to the inline 6 in her but it would be nice to take her down a notch.

R"s only has standard 4 speed transmission. MM Ampli-torq never came out until 1957 in 5 Star"s. Does it have 34" tires? Better check to see if it has 4 spark plugs? No R ever had 6!

the bump on the cover to the right of the shifter would be a mounting place for a hand clutch. I thought an RTE would have a hand clutch. I think you may have an absolute custom job there.

Thanks for the replies. It"s a beast as you can see from the pics.It has a GM 250 as I"ve discovered from Googling the casting numbers on the engine.I knew it had been replaced when I bought it.I haven"t brought it home yet, it"s parked out in the bush on the guy"s property. Hydraulic pump for the loader needs replaced.

the arrow points to what i believe is the hand clutch. the linkage runs underneathe and connects to the clutch pedal. There are 2 empty holes where the handle mounts I think.

MM Del is rite about when the Ampli torque came out.
Looks like you have a highly customised "R" there. If it was mine , I would keep it like it is , just for something very different. It is a tribute to someones mechanical handy work a long time ago. clint

just a follow up- I guess she was just running lean.I had her hauled home and tightened up all the loose carb bolts and she idles down fine now. I found a lot of other loose bolts too.
