Am having trouble getting one axle nut (the big three incher that holds the hub on) loose. Am now planning on heating it to cherry red and trying again. Any other ideas? Thanks! p.s. The other side came off easy and the hub slipped right off the splines. Easy job. This side is making up for it. |

Heat the nut up,it will not take long to do it. The hub can be a different story.

Take a bar (flat or round) that is flat on the end, a big hammer, & hit it on one of the flats in the direction you want it to turn.

You can also drill a hole in the nut and then drive a taperd punch into it when its hot. It should split. Some time this is best for a stubborn NUT. I have had them take the threads off the end of the axel twisting them off.

MOKINME, Sorry to say but I think your cherry red solution is the solution. Last tractor I restored was a farmall 560 with power Adj rear wheels and we had to keep everyone of those fine thred jack screws cherry red as the other turned nut using a cheater on wrench. Not much fun but good exercise. Best, Tony
