Different Hub on Big Mo

This is the hub on the Big Mo I found last summer. It's not cast but machined from steel pieces and welded together. Is this an experimental hub by M-M or is this the work of a machinist/welder to replace a cracked one? One other thing, the wheel center is cast but doesn't have the usual casting numbers. Any comments would be most appreciated.

Who ever made it did a great job but I would guess it is not a MM prototype hub. They were were making too many other simular cast hubs at the time to justify making a weldment hub. I would speculute that someone had a good machine shop and making the hub was cheaper than buying a hub.
