ZTU water pump leaks

The ZTU water pump still leaks at the pulley after installing all the parts that were available. DANG.
I'm thinking of removing the internal parts and blanking off the shaft hole and converting it to a thermo-siphon like the IH Cub.

without the pump It'll boil water like crazy. Probably cook the rear of the engine well done.

Best to try again.

Yep. I'm sure I will. Maybe the packing needs to swell into place.

I think the fiber seal may have to "wear" or seat before it may stop leaking. I think my ZA leaked a little before it stopped leaking.

I had the same problem with my ZTU just make sure that the the inside of the impeller is clean and make sure that the surface that the fiber rides on is clean and it needs to be completley flat or it wont work. You may have to get it machined flat.

When you happy with the rebuild take the Z outside and let it run for an hour or so to let the fiber set in. FYI the fiber is what does the sealing. It is normal to leak at fist.

It is running in this photo. The muffler is a spare that is stuck in the hole temporarily until the proper muffler is purchased.
I ran it for nearly two hours and it looks like the pump seal has seated in properly. Success! I should have known to run it for awhile before whining about the leak.
