UTS Shifter

  I have a 49 UTS and was driving it around and went to but in reverse from 2nd gear now is stuck in 2nd gear. You can get it in the higher gears but it just kill the engine. When when you move the shifter to the 2nd and revers spots the shifter just moves up and down. I think the shifter forks or slides have come apart. Who do you fix this?
Thanks Howard

Your parts are naturaly worn, and if you shifted in a hurry and at an angle, the fork you was pushing slid right on to the end, and the lever slipped out between the shifting forks. Nothing is broke it just isn't in the right place. To fix it by the book is quite a job. BUT there is a lot of things I don't do by the book. I have had this happen maney times with customers tractors and I have never taken the trans cover off yet. If you take that three cornered plate off where you put trans fluid in the trans, and look in there at an angle you can see what is out of place. I have made special tools to move the rails to line them back up. But if you are lucky you might be able to do it with the proper bar. However if you want to repair everything up to snuff and never have it happen again, you will have to take the top off of the trans.

You should be able to unbolt the shift lever
itself from the top of the trans cover and lift it
off. Then you should be able to access the shifter
rails....that's how it is on my UBs.....

The earlier Us did not have the bolt in shifter lever. I believe that was started when they came out with the UBs.
