MM GB LP Pulling

Ok MM folks. I took the GB LP pulling this weekend. I first off had to come up with a seat prior to letting me pull it. Rules states operator must remain in the seat. Well with me being sick most of the summer I had to come up with something quick. Laugh if you must, but it worked.

I was unsure what the GB would weigh with all the weights and thought I had chloride in the tires. I loaded up 8 100lb suit case weights. With the extra weights I weighed in at 9490 lbs. I would have had to loose at least 900 lbs to get into next lighter class. Since I wanted to pull twice I also registered to pull in the 10500lb class weighing at 9490.

Not sure what I did wrong but we fell on our face. Couldn't get any rpms so it just lugged down the track. I think two things happened. 1 I left the carb in the choke position and I still had the vapor valve open instead of the liquid valve. So we didn't do well that round.

In the 10500 lb class they added another cement slab to the sled. I greased the governor, closed the vapor valve, checked all linkage and we gave it another try. What a difference that made. Had full rpms heading down the track. (Boy I got to get used to that clutch). It pulled 100 percent better but we still ran out of power. It did pull the front end off the ground. I raised the draw bar to 18'', just 2 '' shy of the rules. Here it is pulling as I said earlier I would post pictures.

Great pics, and a great looking tractor! My number one suggestion is to lose the weight (wheel weights and fluid in tires). If you are pulling at 9500 and 10500 with the stock 403 engine, you will never have enough power. Also, the tractors you're pulling against are bigger machines with more horsepower. You could potentially pull against an Allis D21 in that class, which puts out almost twice as much horsepower. I'm not sure how your weight classes are set up, but you should shoot for a 7500-8000lb class, maybe 7000 if you can make it.

Nobody likes to run out of power, it's the worst way to end a pull.

I pull a GB on LP also. I run same tires and wheels as you but took pto, fenders, platform, hydralics, and all water and weights off and I pull at 7000#, 7500# and 8000#. Its a good pulling tractor and seldom gets beat. These are a bit nose heavy so it usually doesn't rare up until 7500# and up. You will power out at the weight you pulled at but I never do. Funny, I left the choke on at a pull once also. That was the only time I powered out!

Thanks for the replies. Anyone know what the big rear weights weigh? The weigh class go in 1000'b increments so getting to 8500 will probably be know problem. If wheel weights weigh 250 each then I could drop a 1000 lbs there. I might try it again on a different track to see how dropping to 8500 will do.
