Tachometer/Speedometer Drive

I had my G-VI Tachometer/speedometer restored/repaired/recalibrated by Metro Speedometer, a shop recommended to me on this forum. The drive cable assembly was damaged so I had that replaced too.

The end of the new cable that attaches to the drive bushing on the distributor housing will not go into the drive. The new cable has a punched out key on the end. The opening in the tachometer drive bushing is smaller and round, not having a key way for the new cable to insert into.

I sent the old cable in with the tachometer, but if I remember right the old cable had a square shape on the end of the cable to be inserted into the drive bushing.

What does the correct cable look like on the end that inserts into the drive bushing?

Where can I get the correct cable?

Thanks,

Dean

SKYCARP - THE END OF THE CABLE,(both ends) SHOULD BE SQUARE . I THINK THE REPAIR SHOP PROBABLY CRIMPED THE END ON THAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING BY MISTAKE. I JUST WENT AND MEASURED AN OLD CABLE THAT CAME OFF MY GVI AND IT MEASURED APPROX. 92 IN. IN LENGTH AND HAD BOTH ENDS SQUARE !
JUST FOR INFO., HOW MUCH WAS THE CHARGES TO REPAIR THE TACH/SPEEDO? I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY IN THE PAST ON A SIMILAR TACH. AND THINK THE CHARGES WERE OVER $100'S. THAT WAS A FEW YEARS AGO. I DO HAVE ANOTHER TACH TO GET REPAIRED, AND MAY SEND IT THERE.
HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO FURNISH THE CORRECT CABLE !!!
THANKS --DEAN Z.

Hey Dean,

Over the phone they quoted me $180 for servicing the tach/speedo, and $30 for the cable.

On the invoice they actually charged me $200 for labor to RESTORE/REPAIR/RECALIBRATE the tachometer, and they charged me $40 for the new (wrong) cable listed as 64 inches on the invoice, but the cable was actually 90 inches long, which is the correct length I needed.

Another problem surfaced when I opened the shipping box. The restored tach face was floating around in the case and one screw was missing from the face and the other screw loose. I had to open up the case and fish for the screw missing from the face and re-screw it back into place. I found the other screw was in place but very loose. Opening up the case is not for anyone with a weak heart!

We will be chatting about charges, poor work, and incorrect cable tomorrow.

Thanks for the info,

Dean
