MM ZAU hydraulic problem/question

I have a 1952 ZAU that I have added hydraulics too with salvage yard parts. The pump and lines are in great shape and work as they should, however, the hydraulics won't even try to hold a load. I tried to pick up my 12' crusher and it picked it up fine but as soon as you kick the lever back it falls to the ground. All of the books I have for the lift just tell me to replace anything that looks bad, but I don't have any idea what everything is supposed to look like in the first place. Can you rebuild the valve in the reservoir? Are there some internal o-rings I missed the first time I had it apart?

If your using just the MM hyd system, you have to use a MM cylinder also. It has the valves in the cylinder. A regular cylinder will fall just like you said. You can also put a set of check valves in the lines going to the cylinder. I have a set off an old loader that i use on one tractor, but things work much better if you just plum in a char-lynn valve. Then it works like any open center hyd system.

You are on the right track. MM hydraulic systems are different from most others because they do not have an oil flow check valve in the system. Instead they put it in their MM remote cylinders. If you want to use other cylinder brands that do not have a check valve you can intall one in the lines. Most people do this. The obvious place is in the rear of the tractor in front of the connection for the cylinder hoses. TSC, and Northen Tool company come to mind as vendors, Maybe even this YT site sells them.
