OK guy's I need help, I just purchased a 1960 GVI non running. The ensign regulator is missing but the guy threw in a continental regulator from a 705 he thought. Tractor still has the ensign carb on it. So my question is will the continental regulator work with the ensign carb, or should I use a continental carb? And if so what modifications will be necessary?

Another question on same tractor. the reason this tractor was parked(this is the story I got anyway) is because something broke in the throw-out on the clutch. When I got it home I removed the side cover and to me everything looked OK. clutch would snap in and out OK. But later I tried it again and it was extremely hard to snap in and out, just did not fell right, any ideas?

I will prolly have many questions as I restore this GVI but want to address these two issues first before I get to far on it. I want it to run and operate right before I tear it down.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

What am I thinking, yes it is a century, not continental.
Thanks for getting me straight John.third party image

I did notice the small line on the ensign carb but couldn't find like fitting on the Century regulator.

Still scratching my head, trying to figure this outthird party image

Thanks for the suggestions, looking for more

I've changed my M670 over from Ensign to Impco, these 2 brands do not interchange, ie: the regulator of one will not work with the carb of the other. There is a "balance line" on the Ensign regulator to carb and none on the Impco. If you're not sure if it'll run, use starting fluid and leave the LP shut off. If it runs like that, turn on the vapor valve and see what you've got. Use the starting fluid sparingly. don't know anything about the "continental" regulator, was it by chance a "Century"? Thanks, John

The other regulator should work if it's in good operating condition. Matching brands doesn't matter. What does matter will it regulate the pressure down to the 8-12 ounces most of them send to the carburetor. You just don't want to go with a regulator that came off a much smaller engine as it might not put out the volume needed to keep up. Going with a regulator that was recommended for larger size engine is okay as long as output is down enough and regulator works correctly. Maybe a bad throwout bearing on clutch?

Actually they are pre-set diferently from the factory if you use a century regulator with a impco carb you have to change the spring in the regulator, and vise/versa.

Another reason to just go with all Impco because can't get most stuff for Ensign anymore after Bosch dropped them and split up. Impco is still in business today. I should have said some non matching brands might work if you know how or can make it work. Ensigns was always a pain when new. propanecarbs.com has some Century info and products.

I changed my GVI to gas didn't know much about LP and no storage for LP.Went and found a diesel hood and fuel tank and I already had a carb. The one I have has a 504 engine instead of the 425.
