I just changed the fuel filter on my Massey 40 Diesel (3 cyl Perkins I believe). Now it will not start. I assume I need to bleed the air per the reprint operators manual I have. My manual says to crack open the air bleed on the filter housing, I'm not sure where this is. Also says to bleed a line off the injector pump. There are two caps on the injector pump, one near each of the 2 lines, is this what I open? I am really lost, I don't know ANYTHING about Diesels, or tractors for that matter: but I have worked on lots of cars. Thanks in advance. Alan

You guys are great. Dean here is my email. alananddeb@earthlink.net Your website is excellent, I appreciate your help.

If you want you guys can tell me where the diff lock is on the Massey. My opereators manual shows a long handle on the right hand side, but I can't find anything!

Again Thanks, Alan (not quite old)

Alan, Make sure that you get the fuel filter filled as per "old"'s instructions. There is a fitting on each injector that connects the injector to the fuel supply from the fuel pump. Loosen the nut on each injector fitting and crank the starter until you see fuel leaking out of each fitting. Tighten the fittings and start it up. Hope this helps.

Did you fill the filter with fuel before you put it on?? If you didn't you have a lot of air to get rid of. On top of the filter bracket you should see a pipe plug, that is where you bleed the filter. As far as on the pump I don't know since I haven't messed with any perkins before. You can also crack the lines loose at the injectors to bleed the lines, which you may have to do if you didn't fill the filter before putting it on. Hope this helps you some

The four cyl. Perkins I have worked on, Industrial not Ag. Have a lift or carrier mechanical pump that looks like an auotmotve fuel pump that bolts to the block. That should have a manual primer When you open the bleeder or crack the outlet line to the injector pump. Pump that until you get agood flow of fuel, then crack the lines at the injectors and crank the engine untill fuel appears. hope this helps Jerry
