MF 275 Low Hydraulic Pressure/Slow Bucket

I have a 1970 something MF 275 that has goofy hydraulic issues. Its got a Bush Hog 2425 QT loader on it that works but moves very slowly.

I use it to run a log splitter that seems to also operate fairly slowly.
Both of these run off of one of the aux ports on the back.

The log spliter only registers about 1000 psi maximum which i feel is pretty low for a hydraulic system. Also, in order to get the bucket to lift anything significant, the engine needs to be going full speed. Is that normal?

So far I've replaced the screen filter inside the transmission case. I know very little about the hydraulics on this tractor so any direction for troubleshooting the slow loader/low pressure issue would be appreciated.

I have the service manual for it but, it seems to be really lacking in detaill when it comes to the hydraulic system,

Even at idle, the pressure on a good system will be 2000-2100 PSI. If it's low there may be pump trouble OR a split steel line inside from the pump outlet elbow to the side cover outlet port. Had that happen awhile back on a 265.

Is that the cover where the PTO lever is? Basically pull that off and look for oil squirting out where it shouldn't be?

The PTO side cover WILL NOT come off because of the lines attached to it inside. Lift cover MUST come off first. Get a service manual, BEFORE pulling the lift cover as there's a roller that must be removed first.

Can you recommend a good manual? I've googled a ton and only found pretty mediocre service manuals. Any idea where to get the original oem manual?

Thanks for the help.

Where are your auxiliary outlets plumbed from? I would be curious if you are running the loader from the 3 point pump. If so, the loader will be slow.

I have a 165 that uses the 3 point pump and it is very slow. I also have a 275 and use my hydraulic log splitter on it. It has true auxiliary hydraulics that use a higher GPM pump. It runs the splitter very
well.

Pictures might be helpful to see the plumbing.

Hello, I have this homepage where I try to explain MF hydraulics. This MF565 is a bit different from 200-series and your 275 can be different from what I've seen they are here in Europe. But they have plenty of common anyway:

On the end of page there are links, that can be also useful.

Yes the first thing is to take off the right side cover (with dipstick). Possible leaks can be seen too through this opening. If the PTO side cover has hydraulic pipes, the tractor has auxiliary pump (and lift pump too). If not pipes there, then inside is only the lift pump (alias 3-point pump). My 565 is without the auxiliary pump.

Try to find out which pump you're using at the moment.

The aux outlets come off of the side cover port and into the two valves to the left of the seat. From the valve the go to the quick connects on the back. I'll try and get some pictures of it tonight. Everything has a pretty solid layer of gunk on it so ill do what I can to scrap it clean.

I got a chance to dig into the tractor a bit and take some pictures of the plumbing. I had replaced the lines coming from the aux valve to the quick connect ports because I had one burst on me.

I've got the fender off, the seat off and should be ready to pull the top cover and see if there's any split lines inside.

Have you opened that return filter, if that's a return filter? You can have a stuck return line too, this came to mind mainly because of that burst line.

Some pressure limiter valve can leak too, I don't know if that aux valve has some or is there one only on the pump.
