Hello,

I now have my tractor starting problem fixed but before that my 3 point hitch wouldn't lift and the pto would spin slow and sometimes spin faster but once I try going through some brush with the brush hog it would bog down and not spin at all hardly.

I am thinking it might be the trans/hydraulic fluid? I don't know much about these old tractors.

Where is the spot to check this? I understand there is a bolt somewhere to fill it but I cannot locate that either. Here are some pictures. Can someone point this out?

Dipstick for the transmission/rear end is by your right foot. Add
oil through the cap to the left of the hi/lo shifter. It sounds like
your clutch maybe slipping.

Thank you. Just to verify the fill cap would be where the red circle is and the green circle would show the location of the dipstick.

I checked the dipstick but it is broken off.

So I took the cap off of the red circle location and I do see fluid all the way up in the cap where I can actually touch it. So I assume its full if that is the correct location.

So if it's not low fluid you mentioned the clutch slipping. Can this be fixed? If so it sounds like it might be an expensive fix?

Anything else I can do to determine if it is the clutch slipping?

Thanks!

Nope. Dipstick is on the right side when sitting on the tractor.
Down by the heel of your right foot. Fill cap is to the left of the
gear shift lever.

Which way are you moving the lever to engage your pto? I'm wondering
if maybe you are trying to run it on ground speed? Lever forward for
ground, lever back for engine. Also trying moving your lift arms
with the auxiliary hydraulic levers that are between your knees
while on the seat.

I believe that is correct. In the picture the left side of the picture is the seat. Therefore the green circle would be the back heel of my right foot.

The left side would be the red circle. If I were seating on the tractor.

And yes I do have it moved back for the pto to engage not forward. And the levers between my knees are the ones I have always used. I'm not sure if there would be another method but that is what has always moved things up and down.

Fred< I own and use a MF50 gas all most every day. The PTO lever is on the left, behind your left foot. The clutch
has 2 positions. Clutch half way down for transimission gears. Push it half way down to shift. but only when the
tractor is stopped. Clutch all the way down is for the PTO. Push the clutch all the way down to change PTO
engagement. The PTO lever has 3 positions ...middle is neutral Not turning, but some old machines rotate a little by
internal friction but not enough to turn equipment. Push the clutch all the way down, pull up on the PTO lever and
the PTO is engaged at engine speed regardless of the transission gear> This is live PTO. For example, I can use it
when the tractor is completely stopped to turn the pto to unload a full manure spreader in one spot without the
tractor moving. The 3rd position, push the clutch all the way down and push the PTO lever down. This is ground speed
PTO. It only works whan you are moving. Good for PTO hay rakes but not much else. When you stop it stops. Imagine
trying to run a baler that only turns when you move.
Conclusion: be sure you have the PTO properly engaged, and the clutch is working properly.
