MF 3pt Lift And Live Power

On a MF tractor, one where the 3pt lift is driven by the internal pump to the transmission - enabled/disabled when you mash the clutch to the
running board.

When you have a very heavy load on the 3pt and need to disengage the PTO, will the weight of the Implement drop? When I say drop - I?m not
talking leak down like setting, I?m thinking about dropping like you lowered the lift. What keeps the lift up when the pump is off?

Haven?t experienced this - yet....

Thanks!
Bill

If the cylinder is in good condition it should hold or drop very slowly. The more wear to the cylinder the faster it will drop.

One other thing that might help u out someday,
If you have a implement plugged, like a corn picker, if you place the pto lever in (ground speed) then back up the pto shaft will turn in reverse direction,
Many time this is enough to help you clear a stoppage

Also works to clear a hung post hole digger auger, but you have to jack up one rear wheel to allow pto to turn,
However it?s worth it if the auger blade is hung under a root or rod,
Of course some new tractors have reverse pto option

Either that or the O-rings on the stand pipe going from the hydraulic pump to the top cover need replacing, or the stand pipe may have a small split in it allowing it to loose pressure rapidly when you depress the clutch all the way in.

I now own and operate our family MF 35 that had sat outside, had not ran for 25+ years.

With all new oils, filters etc, etc, the three point would lift (300 lbs.) if the engine was operating at 1800 + RPM. and would drop if engine was below 1600 RPM. With no weight on three point lift, lift would drop completely down in under one minute with engine not running.

I replaced three point Hydraulic Pump and all is operating with no concerns. Many Mechanics would re-build pump...I made the decision to install a new pump, and piston and Ring on the lift cover / housing.
