along with the hyd. filter post earlier. does a MF 50 have a hyd. filter ? if so is it accessible without taking a cover plate off ?

Later 50 should have a filter. Early filter doesn't. You can get at the filter through the side cover. If it has multi power the screen for the MP pump will be in the way and you will have to go through the top cover.

I've only ever removed one TO-35 pump and it had no filter/screen. old style I guess. thanks for the photos.

so would a dirty filter cause the hyd. to work slowly ?

Yes, because it will restrict the amount of oil going into the pump.
